{"id":138,"date":"2024-04-01T23:39:44","date_gmt":"2024-04-01T22:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/adamonengineering.com\/?p=138"},"modified":"2024-04-01T23:40:04","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T22:40:04","slug":"milling-machine-post-5-a-working-power-feed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adamonengineering.com\/index.php\/2024\/04\/01\/milling-machine-post-5-a-working-power-feed\/","title":{"rendered":"Milling Machine Post 5 &#8211; A working power feed!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, with my neighbours tap in hand and a borrowed tap kit from my father (which also included an M6x1.00 tap), we (my father and I) set off back to the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>Problem one was that the gearbox has handles on the opposing face to the motor mount, so it won&#8217;t lie flat on it&#8217;s front, and regardless of that, the box itself wouldn&#8217;t fit within the travel of my little pillar drill. I obviously needed the holes to be cut straight, so I made up a quick drilling block on the pillar drill and used that for the guide. I first used a 3mm drill bit, marking and drilling the new mounting ring first, and then marking the gearbox through the hole. I used a punch to create an indentation to locate the drill bit in, and then aligned the quickly made drill block:<br \/>\n<a data-flickr-embed=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/computid\/53626374249\/in\/album-72177720310095633\/\" title=\"6E498E5D-5AB5-4029-B6FA-D3E9D5145F8C_4_5005_c\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53626374249_2e3494c53a.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"480\" alt=\"6E498E5D-5AB5-4029-B6FA-D3E9D5145F8C_4_5005_c\"\/><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nI drilled it out 3mm first, and then 5mm as required for an M6 tap. I then tapped the hole:<br \/>\n<a data-flickr-embed=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/computid\/53626374244\/in\/album-72177720310095633\/\" Next step is to replace the connection block on the main top motor &#038; replace the cover, and possibly look at replacing the damaged belt cover, though that&#8217;s just cosmetic.
